Environmental Controls
Stormwater
1st flush system in which the first 5 mm of rain water containing solid waste from the roads and paving is collected in pits and pumped to sewer. Thereafter the water drains to stormwater canals.
The 350 stormwater pits on the site each have specially designed perforated plates which, pick up any solid waste over 5 mm diameter, but allows the stormwater to flow.
All stormwater pits are cleaned weekly.
The markets roads, pavings and all public areas are cleaned daily.
Cardboard and green waste is recycled.
Chillers
The number of R22 chillers has been reduced from 5 to 2.
Cooling Towers are tested monthly.
Lights
All external lights are controlled by PE Cells to turn off when there is sufficient natural light.
All internal High Bay Lights have set times controlled by a computer (BMS) to turn on and off at set times.
Half lighting is used at times of low activity.
Majority of power used is off peak.
All the above reduces power generating C02 gases.
Water
All public toilets hand basins have spring loaded timer taps set at approx 7 seconds.
These save considerable water.
Urinal cisterns are controlled by sensors not auto flushing.
Plumbers circulate around site to repair dripping taps and inspect site for signs of underground water leaks.
Liquid waste is pumped out monthly.
General
Special forklift wash bays have been erected to control and filter washing water through an oil plate separator then pumped to sewer.
All mechanical workshops have oil plate separators to retain oil and grease then water is pumped to sewer.
Stormwater and sewerage waste is tested, results sent to Sydney Water.
